Курсът “Уеб програмиране от страна на клиента” е вече отворен за всеки, който има желание да се запише на него.

Какво ще се изучава в “Уеб програмиране от страна на клиента”?

Нека започнем от това от къде идва курса. Продължение на безплатното обучение за “Разработка на уеб Front-End приложения”. Всеки завършил първата част от front-end курса е приет и за “Уеб програмиране от страна на клиента”.

Ще се наблегне най-вече на JavaScript, както и на някои от библиотеките за него като jQuery, jQuery UI и т.н. Ще се обърне специално внимание на HTML5, CSS3 и разработване на така наречения Responsive Design. С помощта на Responsive Desing, курсистите ще могат да разработват своите Уеб приложения, както за настолни машини и лаптопи, така и за мобилни устройства – телефони, таблети, т.н.

Telerik Academy стартира три нови курса, свързани с разработка на Уеб и мобилни приложения

Из разглежданите теми ще се набляга най-вече на HTML5 и JavaScript, заедно с някои други свързани технологии и библиотеки.

Многоплатформени мобилни приложения

Курсът за “Многоплатформени мобилни приложения” е част от курса на Академията на Телерик, който покрива най-популярните мобилни операционни системи (Android, iOS, Windows Phone 7).

Курсът ще покрива теми като HTML5, JavaScript, jQuery, jQuery Mobile, както и други уеб технологии за разработка на мобилни уеб приложения. С помощта на средата PhoneGap, тези приложения ще бъдат пуснати под Android. Също така ще бъдат разгледани средата PhoneGap: специфичния за нея JavaScript, управление на хардуера (камера,геолокация, GPS, т.н. ). На края на курса студентите ще имат задача да разработят собствена игра под формата на мобилно приложение за Android.

Курсът ще се провежда по един път седмично в новата учебна зала на Академията на Телерик и във Факултета по Математика и Информатика (ФМИ) на СУ “Св. Климент Охридски”

Лекции ще има всеки четвъртък от 19:00 ч. във ФМИ, начална дата 13.10.2011 г.
Лекциите в залата на Академията на Телерик ще се провеждат всеки вторник от 18:00 ч., с начална дата 25.10.2011 г.

Уеб приложения с ASP.NET MVC

Курсът “Уеб приложения с ASP.NET MVC” е следващата новост в Академията на Телерик и се породи благодарение на бързо развиващата се и навлизаща технология ASP.NET MVC.

За да запишат Уеб приложения с ASP.NET MVC, студентите трябва да имат понятие от програмиране, тъй като се обръща внимание най-вече на разработката на самата уеб технология, вместо на концепциите за програмиране. В началото се разглежда само най-базовата част от езика C# и платформата .NET, след което се обръща по-голямо внимание на самите Уеб технологии, като HTML5, JavaScript, jQuery, т.н. Разглеждат се и основите за работа с релационни бази данни, както и Entity Framework ORM технологията. Следват и лекциите за ASP.NET MVC. На края на курса всички студенти ще имат задача да направят собствено ASP.NET MVC приложение, което ще защитават пред комисия от екипа на курса.

Курсът ще се провежда по един път седмично в новата учебна зала на Академията на Телерик и във Факултета по Математика и Информатика (ФМИ) на СУ “Св. Климент Охридски”

Лекции ще има всеки понеделник от 18:00 ч. във ФМИ, начална дата 10.10.2011 г.

Курс "Уеб програмиране от страна на клиента"

“Уеб програмиране от страна на клиента”, още познат като Уеб Front-end част 2, е продължение на проведения през пролетта Уеб Front-end курс.

Първоначалната идея на курса за “Уеб програмиране от страна на клиента” беше да е достъпен само до завършилите първата част от Front-end курса, но в последствие екипа технологични трейнъри на курса решихме, че няма разлика дали ще се води на 60 или на 160 човека. Благодарение на новата зала на Академията на Телерик вече можем да направим и по-големи групи. В момента курсът е отворен за записване за всеки, който има желание. При такъв случай той/тя трябва да изпрати имейл на academy@telerik.com със CV, мотивационно писмо и проект написан на HTML.

И в този курс ще се наблегне на развитие на JavaScript умения в курсистите. Ще се изучават HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript и JavaScript за HTML5, jQuery, както и няколко от подобните на jQuery библиотеки за JavaScript. Специално внимание ще се обърне на Media Queries и Responsive Design, чрез които уеб приложението става достъпно и удобно за използване от мобилно устройство.

Курсът ще се провежда веднъж седмично в новата зала на Телерик. Лекциите ще се водят всяка събота от 10:00 ч., и ще стартират на 22.10.2011 г.

Софтуерната Академия на Телерик открива новия сезон 2011/2012 на 19^ти септември

Софтуерната Академият на Телерик за поредна година ще обучава български младежи и студенти във тайните на софтуерното инженерство. Още по-добрата новина е, че този сезон ще стартира с три пъти повече на брой кандидати.

Какво имахме в предишния сезон?

През сезон 2010/2011 Telerik Software Academy започна занятията за безплатно обучение на начинаещи софтуерни инженери с 110 участника и разполагаше само с една зала за обучения. Тренерите бяха др. Светлин Наков и Дончо Минков (аз).

Какво имаме този сезон?

Поради големия успех на Софтуерната Академия на Телерик, тази година ще приемем почти три пъти повече участника: 300 млади и амбициозни хора ще започван безплатното обучение в направленията на Софтуерната Академия. От средата на октомври Академията ще разполага и с нова зала, която е с капацитет от повече от 130 души. Отдела за техническо обучение в Телерик има ново попълнение: Николай Костов, който успешно завърши отминалия сезон на академията и тази година се присъединява в нашите редици.

Telerik Software Academy сезон 2011/2012

В този сезон на Софтуерната Академия на Телерик ще има малко промени:

“Основи на програмирането със C#” ще се раздели на три модула, всеки с продължителност от по един месец

C# Fundamentals Part I – ще покрие начално ниво на програмиране
C# Fundamentals Part II – тук ще се наблегне най-вече на концепциите за обектно-ориентирано програмиране
C# Fundamentals Part III – главно решаване на по-сложни алгоритмични и логически задачи

Успешно преминалите курса “Основи на програмирането със C#”, ще бъдат разпределени в едно от трите възможни направления

.NET Development Essentials – участниците ще разгледат надълбоко най-новите технологии на Microsoft, като Entity Framework, WPF, Silverlight, ASP.NET MVC, HTML5, JavaScript, разработка на мобилни приложения и много други
QA Academy – в това направление участниците ще се специализират в областта на осигуряването на качеството на софтуера и автоматизираното тестване
Developper Support – тук участниците ще изучават техники за работа с клиенти

Telerik Academy Launches New Courses

As always Telerik Academy is introducing many new courses starting in the fall. This time the scope of technologies is expanding rapidly.

This year’s courses will cover not only .Net technologies, but also HTML5, JavaScript, Mobile Development and many more.

Some of the courses are:

Telerik Academy

Covering the fundamentals of programming using C# as programming language and .Net as development platform. The purpose of the course is to produce high quality software engineers with real life experience. The course consists of two modules – Fundamentals of C# and .Net Development Essentials. In the Fundamentals the trainees gain advanced knowledge about programming concepts as a whole and deepen their expertise in C#. In the .NET Development Essentials the trainees explore .Net technologies like Microsoft SQL server, Entity framework, HTML5,CSS, JavaScript, ASP.NET Web forms and MVC, XAML with both WPF and Silverlight and software engineering. The whole course will be 8 months long.

Mobile Development Course

The Mobile Development course is a brand and is covering the most widely-spread mobile platforms like Windows Phone 7, Android OS and iOS. The course will cover both native application development and cross-platform development. Since the course program is still in progress, the cross-platform application is still unknown. The course is expected to be 5-6 months long with a month and a half dedicated to every platform. The course is planned to be available online but this is still a matter of discussions.

ASP.NET MVC University Course

Lately ASP.NET MVC is gaining speed these days and since Telerik Academy introduces cutting-edge technology courses we are replacing the former ASP.NET Web forms course with a brand new one called “Web Applications Development with .NET Framework and ASP.NET MVC”. The course will be available in the Sofia Technical universities (Sofia University, Technical University, NBU etc.).

Software Quality Assurance and Test Automation Course

The second season of QA Academy is ready to start in the fall as an educational course, designed to prepare specialists in the sphere of "Quality Assurance and Test Automation". It offers free practical training for young people, interested in gaining knowledge in the area of Software Quality Assurance. The main goal of the course is to cover the basics of quality assurance, testing life-cycle, test automation, white-box and black-box testing techniques, Web and desktop testing, test management and many particular testing tools that automate the testing process. The best graduates will be certified and offered a position at Telerik as junior QA specialists.

Advanced Web Front-End Course

The Front-end course turned to be one of the most popular courses of Telerik Academy for this year. The first part of the course is near its end and in September the second module, advanced, will be launched. The graduates from the first module of the course have mastered the basic concepts, technologies and skills for Web front-end application development. The second module will provide more advanced know-how about cutting-edge technologies like HTML5, CSS3, new HTML5 JavaScript APIs and jQuery. The main targets of the course are students, who study computer science related specialties from all Universities in Sofia as well as students from from elite High Schools, who have the desire to develop a career as Web front-end development professionals. The course will also be available on-line.

Telerik School Academy

Telerik School Academy is launching its seconds season 2011/2012. This year the high-school students will learn about WPF and Silverlight, Mobile Development, 3D Graphics and game development, but news for the full program will come later.

Telerik QA Academy is About to Start

What is Telerik QA Academy?
Telerik QA Academy is an initiative of Telerik since there is a growing need of QA engineers and there are not enough people. The course is free of charge and the best trainees will be invited to apply for a job at Telerik.

After many months of preparation, the Telerik QA Academy (http://qaacademy.telerik.com) is ready to start.

The only thing left is the selection, of the trainees. After the end of the Fundamentals of C# Course (http://academy.telerik.com) 16 students continued in the Telerik QA Academy. But since the course is supposed to be for 30 trainees, we are making preliminary exams for ‘outside’ students. The idea behind this is that most of the students, who attend the Fundamentals of C# Course, want to become developers and they joined the course with no clue they may turn out to be QA engineers. There are lots of students that prefer to be QA engineers before developers so this looks the obvious solution.

The preliminary exams are carried out in two levels.

67 candidates held the preliminary IQ,Computer Science and English tests
36 held the preliminary programming exams
only 15 will continue in the Telerik QA Academy

The IQ, CS and English tests consist of simple questions, just to check if the candidates have basic knowledge.

The best ones from the candidates hold a programming exam consisting of five simple programming problems.

They are allowed to use just three programming languages C/C++, Java or C#. They have five hours to solve the tasks and only the best ones will join the course.

The QA Academy course is planned to start on Thursday, May 12th, 2011.

Telerik Front-end Courses

Yet more Telerik courses are coming to life – Telerik Web Front-end Academy (http://www.telerik.com/academy/courses-and-seminars/web-front-end-course.aspx) and Telerik XAML Front-end Academy.

The idea for these courses appeared while we were wondering ‘why there are not enough capable front-enders'?’ After some meetings and lots of discussing we finally decided that there is a essential need for Front-end courses.

Some of you may say ‘why there are two different courses for Front-end?’ Actually at first we also thought that there is no need for two courses and planned only one course, but after a long meeting with some of the senior front-enders in Telerik we came to agreement that the Xaml and Web technologies are too different and a Web front-end developer does not have to know Xaml. So the courses came to life! The Web course is starting at the end of February, while the Xaml will start some time in April. The trainers’ team will be consisting of the current two trainers in Telerik Svetlin Nakov and Doncho Minkov, but the advanced topics will be delivered by the senior Web and Xaml front-end developers in Telerik.

The courses’ program is much like the one in Telerik Academy – presentations, practical exercises, lots of homework and frequent exams, so only the most hard-working students will continue the courses.The expected number of trainees is around 75-80 students per course, but only 20 from each course will continue in the next stages. The best students from both courses will be offered a job career in Telerik. The courses will be independent from the universities in Sofia, so every student will be able to apply.

In the Web Front-end course will be covered the basics of HTML and CSS, while in the Xaml course will be covered the basics of Xaml, both WPF and Silverlight, styling, templating and more.

Telerik Academy Fundamentals of C# Part II

After a month spent in the Academy (academy.telerik.com), the time came for the Intermediate Exam. After hard work from both the students and the trainers the exams had passed and now 66 students will continue the trainings in the Academy.

Now the new module in the Academy has just started and that means two more months in exploration of C# and .Net Framework. The students seem eager enough for advanced knowledge so I think the results will be even better at the Final exam in two months.

As all the student know, there are three possible directions of development from now on: .NET Development Essentials, Telerik QA Academy and Clients Solutions Software Engineering.

Almost all the students think that the only choice for them is to become a Software Developer, i.e graduate from .NET Development Essentials (http://www.telerik.com/academy/courses-and-seminars/ms.net-essentials-course.aspx), but I have another opinion. Not everybody is a developer material and this is a good think. QA engineer or Client Solutions Software Engineer is as good and prestige as Software Developer. The bad thing is that most of the people cannot realize that. While I was lecturing and noticed that some of the students will actually become more skillful QA than developer and I hope they will find that out soon enough.

Common Mistakes Done by the Students in the New Telerik Academy Season

For now I have delivered 3 lectures in the Telerik Academy (academy.telerik.com) and there are some mistakes that most of the students make. Most of the mistakes are in the format of the code i.e. not high quality writer code:

int number=int.Parse(Console.ReadLine());

This is maybe the most commonly mistake. There is no way to debug this line of code. Of course when we are reading from the console, maybe we will try not to pass invalid arguments, but it is the same when reading from a file, stream i.e.

It should be done like this:

string numberAsString=Console.ReadLine();
int number=int.Parse(numberAsString);

Now we can put a breakpoint over the second line and in debug mode check the value of the numberAsString string.

Another thing is the variables declaration. A lot of people are used to declare the variables in the beginning of the class,method or section, because this is the concept in C. In .Net it is the other way around – you should declare your variables just before you use them, because this way the code is easier to read and understand. It is kind of annoying to scroll 5 times just to see the type of a variable and then scroll back 5 times to return to the line of code you were earlier.

The Second Season of Telerik Academy started

Today, November 22nd, the new Academy (academy.telerik.com) season started. Nine months ago, I was on the other side – I was the student, the trainee, I was supposed to prove myself worthy. This time I am the trainer, the person who is not only supposed to know more than the others, but to teach them new useful programming. This is yet another field for me to prove worthy because till now I have just a little experience in trainings and I have to adjust on the move.

115 students start in the Academy I have already met the first group that will have lectures Monday and Thursday morning. The students seem to be highly motivated and eager to succeed in the process of the Academy. I have spoken with some of them and they look Ok, but as we all know not everything is as it seems. There are four more groups to meet with and maybe some of them will be not as friendly and cool as those that are in the present group. In time I will be able to give more accurate information.

I hope at least half of those 115 students will someday become my colleagues and/or team members.

Telerik Academy Preliminary Exams are Over

Finally the preliminary exams are over. After three weeks of exams I started to think they will never end.
Actually that is a good thing because it means Telerik Academy (academy.telerik.com) is a project that young developers find appealing.

Nearly 220 candidates sat the preliminary exams but only a hundred will start the trainings at the Telerik Academy. That is less than 50% so it will be a hard choice but in general we will select the best one hundred candidates that have the biggest chance to start working in Telerik.
The results from these exams are expected in the middle of next week and the Academy will start on 22nd of November

So, successful candidates, we will meet on November 22nd.

Telerik - Best Employer in Bulgaria for 2010

Yesterday Telerik became Best Employer in Bulgaria for the year 2010. It was kind of expected since this year Telerik hired near a hundred new employees.

With its program Telerik Academy (academy.telerik.com) Telerik gave a chance to more than 20 students to start a career in the IT sphere.

I am proud to be part of Telerik and hope that more and more people will come and see what a great place to work Telerik is.
